Jim joined the 1% for the Planet board in 2017, bringing over 30 years of extensive business strategy, product development and global operations leadership experience. After serving as Vice Chair and Treasurer, Jim was elected Board Chair in the fall of 2021. 

Over the past 12 years, Jim served as CEO, President and Board Member of several progressive Outdoor product companies including Cascade Designs and family-owned – 1% for the Planet member – Klean Kanteen. Previously the founder of Slickrock Concepts, a product strategy and development firm in Colorado, Jim has served in executive positions with various global corporations, including The Coleman Company and Baxa Corporation. 

More recently, Jim focuses his energy on company turnaround and growth roles, as well as being an advisor and impact investor in early-stage businesses with environmental, personal health and social impact missions.

Jim has long been active in supporting environmental stewardship whether through promoting and demonstrating responsible business practices, helping youth outdoor leadership programs, or advocating awareness and policy on behalf of his various company’s non-profit partners.

Jim earned a B.S. in Business Management with a specialty in entrepreneurship and received the distinguished alumni award from the University of Wyoming. With a lifelong passion for the outdoors, Jim spends his spare time skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking and trail running.  Jim and his wife Lisa are proud individual members of 1% for the Planet.
