Communications and Web Design Intern Role:

1% for the Planet is searching for an intern for our Brand and Marketing department. This role will be based at our Headquarters in the South End of Burlington and is a paid position. The Communications and Web Design Intern position will run through the Spring 2023 semester with the potential for extension through the summer.

The Brand and Marketing Team is responsible for managing communications, website, events and social media to increase 1% for the Planet’s brand awareness.

Beyond the Key Responsibilities, this internship offers an opportunity to expand upon your interests and skills within our different areas of work. Feel free to include specific interests in these areas in your application.

Ideal candidates are highly motivated, independent, have excellent communication skills, and have a passion for the environment. The right student for this opportunity is a team player, an efficient and effective worker and shows strong initiative to take on any task as it presents itself. 

Please note: Any work at our headquarters will be closely monitored by our team to ensure safety protocols for COVID-19 are utilized and upheld. We would like our interns to be able to use our office space but will also work with candidates to discuss a remote work schedule that feels safest to them. 

                                                                             

Key Responsibilities (what you’ll do):

  • Support Brand & Marketing team in organizing, promoting and carrying out our annual Ecochallenge, with responsibilities including: 
    • Managing the Ecochallenge platform to set up the event and create engaging challenges calling to the impact of our network
    • Promoting the event via social media and email communications
    • Managing event upkeep and engagement throughout its runtime. 
  • Advise on how to best market the 1% for the Planet mission to the student demographic through our communications. 
  • Support Marketing Tech and Web team in migration and implementation of Webflow content.
  • Support Marketing Tech and Web team with buildout of Toolkits for our business members and Environmental Partners via a platform like Zendesk or other knowledge-base system.
  • Maintain digital assets’ (e.g. image, animation, video) file management, organization, and nomenclature.
  • Attending regular meetings with both Communications and Marketing Tech and Web Teams.

 

Qualifications (the required skills): 

  • Proficient in the Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
  • Knowledge and fluency in social media marketing (Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook)
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Strong communications, copywriting and editing skills
  • Time management skills with strong attention to detail and desire to learn

 

Desirable Skills / Experience (the ‘nice to have’ but not necessary skills):

  • Animation (e.g. Lottie)
  • Webflow CMS 
  • JavaScript
  • Adobe Creative Suite

Please note: Currently, no 1% for the Planet staff members are required to work in our physical office space, even Vermont-based employees. Our team is currently either working from home or working a closely monitored hybrid schedule between their home and our headquarters. Any work done at our headquarters by 1% for the Planet staff members that choose to utilize the space is closely monitored by our team to ensure safety protocols for COVID-19 are implemented, regularly updated and upheld. We will safely arrange for any Vermont-based hire to be able to use our office space, should they request it. We will also work with any candidates to discuss a remote work schedule that feels most safe to them.
